This week’s League of Extraordinary Bloggers topic immediately brought back some emotional pain from earlier this year. (Thanks, Brian!)
Regret comes with the territory in the world of collecting. It’s a fact of life. It doesn’t matter what you are collecting be it figures, memorabilia, balls of lint, there are always going to be regrets. Why didn’t I buy that, why didn’t I sell that, why didn’t I trade that, these are all questions every collector has asked themselves. The last time I asked myself that, while striking the Homer pose you see above, was when I had a chance to buy all of the Django Unchained 8″ figures from NECA.
I was ready to shell out $30 per figure for the entire set all at once! This is not usually how I do it. I usually buy one or two items at a time so the budget doesn’t take such a hit. With these figures I knew I couldn’t do it that way because for 1. these are collectables based off of a Tarantino film and 2. there was already tons of controversy surrounding both the figures and the film. My collector’s instinct was telling me to BUY THEM ALL NOW KTHXBYE but did I listen? No. What really makes it even more unbearable is that I can’t remember why I didn’t do it! before they were discontinued and eventually kicked off and banned from Ebay.
Currently you can purchase these figures from Amazon, some for roughly around twice the original price to more sought after figures for several hundred dollars. The complete set might set you back a couple grand. So you can see why the pain is so deep. That’s a lot of scratch for the original investment! I could buy SO MANY mini figs with that money.
It helps to know I’m not alone! Check out regrets other League members have had.
