What better way to knock the dust off this place than with a post for The League!
This weeks assignment:
SDCC 2014 is a wrap. What peaked your interest most this year? What was a disappointment?
Here are the main announcements from SDCC 2014 that really caught my attention, in no particular order.
Mad Max: Fury Road
As most of you may know I am no fan of remakes or reboots or re-imaginings or whatever people want to call the regurgitation of past ideas and films. Having said that, George Miller’s over-budget Mad Max: Fury Road staring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron looks pretty bad ass.
Evil Dead TV Series
I mean, are you serious?! This is pretty great news but it’s also a little scary. Not many details are known about the project except that Sam, his brother Ivan and Bruce are currently developing it. When I heard the news a lot of questions begin to swirl around my head. Does it fit into the original franchise or the remake? Is Ash going to return and if so is Campbell going to be the one loading the boomstick? Is this series suppose to be the crossover from the originals to the remake we were promised? Hopefully with all the new hype for the project we’ll get some answers but for now all we have is a tweet from The Chin himself:

Who’s not excited about a King Kong origins story written by Godzilla writer Max Borenstein? The directing chair has been offered to Joe Cornish who directed Attack the Block. That’s all fine and dandy but I like Peter Jackson’s idea much better, Guillermo del Toro!
Jackson had this to say in an interview with Collider:
I would look forward to it. If Guillermo did King Kong, that would be great. That would be fantastic. I’ll be there on the first day, and will help him with anything he needs. I’ve always wondered, if in my lifetime, whether we’re going to see The Lord of the Rings film remade, or The Hobbit remade. How long will it actually last or survive until someone remakes it? It will be interesting to see. But with Kong, we were the ones who remade it for the third time.
While I was pleasantly surprise by Gareth Edwards Godzilla, the announcement of Godzilla 2 was no surprise at all. What was a surprise to me about Godzilla 2 is that there will be 3 monsters, Mothra, Rodan, and King Gidorah! This seems like a bit much for a sequel and may be a little overwhelming. Why not space them out a little?
The news that Mondo was getting into the toy business was like a bucket of water to the face. This is such a natural progression to go along with their beautiful posters and yet I would have never even thought about it. If you’re like me and many other poster collectors you know that getting ANY of these toys are going to be beyond hard. Practice hitting that F5 key and if you haven’t already, get yourself an eBay account and prepare to pay.
The Hateful Eight
Some of you may recall how pages of the The Hateful Eight script leaked and Tarantino when ballistic and threatened not to release it, turn it into a novel and even a play. We all know Tarantino loves his movies too much not to release them into the world for all to see. So it was only a matter of time before it was announced that he was moving ahead with the release in true Tarantino fashion. Tarantino was at SDCC to talk about the Django Unchained/Zorro crossover comic when a fan asked about The Hateful Eight and his response was:
Yes, we are going to be doing The Hateful Eight, all for you. We weren’t sure about it but I just decided just now.
Shortly after we got a poster too.
Mike Tyson Mysteries
And last but certainly not least Adult Swim comes out of left field with Mike Tyson Mysteries! I’m not even sure what to say really but I love it. Iron Mike even voices his own character! With lines like
Ima use my fists to beat the sh-t out the [chubracabra], the only thing I’ve never beaten the sh-t out of yet!
this 80’s style throw back is sure to please my 12 year old inner child.
